Section Fourteen held their annual Super Camp in Homestead Florida last weekend.
Region 805 was a great host for this successful event. Previously the section staff has
held several management, referee, coaching, and instructor training sessions and mini
camps. Last year we held our first annual Super Camp in Boca Raton and trained
approximately 20 volunteers. This year we had 45 student volunteer participants and
20 Collage Athlete Program players!
This year we offered a wide variety of courses at both the basic, introductory, and
advanced level. We are pleased that a majority of our regions would be able to conduct
in house basic referee and coach training, thanks to the 13 students that attended the
Basic AYSO Instructor Course. Our Intermediate Instructor base grew at the Area level
as we had four attendees in the Intermediate Referee Instructor Course.
We also had great attendance in the Intermediate Coaching Course and the Advanced
Referee Course. A wide range of Management courses were offered as well. We strongly
encourage regions to take advantage of our Intermediate and Advanced Management
Instructors, have them visit your region or an Area meeting. They can provide the
necessary training for your board and staff to ensure that your region runs efficiently.
The Section staff would like to give high five's to Terrie Dawkins (Regional Commissioner
for Region 805 in Homestead Florida) and her staff, for her outstanding effort and
assistance in making the whole camp a success. We could not have done it with out her
assistance in securing the facility, arranging for food, and at the last minute,
finding chairs and tables for the classrooms.
Thanks Again Terrie!
We are already looking ahead toward next year's camp, so we will need everyone's help.
We hope that those regions that were not able to attend this year, will work toward
planning on attending next year. Those that attended this year, please tell us what we
did right or wrong so we can improve, and don't forget to tell your friends what they
missed!
Section Fourteen was fortunate enough to hold the second ever Collage Athlete Program
weekend clinic. Twenty soccer players ages 13 to 18 from as far south as Key West to
as far north as Ocala, Florida, attended the weekend clinic. Activities ranged from
soccer tactics and skills evaluation to classroom subjects such as writing a college
sport resume and a player/parent orientation.
All the players had a great time and the section staff can't wait to build on this
success. We look forward to offering this again next year. We hope that the players
will take this experience back to their regions and schools and promote this. With
any luck we may be able to offer the entire weeklong CAP Center. In order to do that,
we will need more kids. So please, talk it up around your region and the local
high schools. The earlier the commitment we can get, the easier it will be to make it
happen next year!
